About this guide

Short answer: First Time in China is a practical, text-led guide for first-time visitors to China. It answers, step by step, the questions first-timers actually ask before and during a trip: do I need a visa, how do I pay, how do I book a train, how do I get around a city, what do I eat, and how do I stay safe.

What this guide is — and is not

It is a how-to guide, not a general introduction to China and not a news site. Every guide is written to be followed in order, with checklists, tables and frequently asked questions, so you can finish a step before you need the next one.

It is text-led on purpose. No video is required to use any guide, and no guide depends on a single app version: where menu names or limits move between versions, the guide says so and tells you to follow the labels on your screen or the in-app display.

How guides are kept up to date

Guides are updated regularly, especially time-sensitive pages about visas, payments and trains. Where sources disagree — for example on visa-free lists, train prices or payment limits — the guide gives a range or both figures, marks the uncertainty, and points you to the official source to confirm before you book.

What we do not do

We do not invent screenshots, prices, or statistics. Where a real-device screenshot or a real photo would help, the guide says it will be added, rather than using a stock or copied image that does not show the actual step.
